PASSION + TEACHING + CREATIVITY + TECHNOLOGY = REDEFINING WHAT’S POSSIBLE
April has been a teacher for Albuquerque Public Schools since August of 2000. During this time, she has devoted her time as a fourth grade teacher, third grade teacher, multi-age classrooms, and technology integration teacher. April fell in love with Apple tools and how they are used to promote creativity and give authenticity and student voice in a way that was previously inconceivable. April is a devoted and proud member of the Apple Distinguished Educator Program, Class of 2013. Apple Distinguished Educators (ADEs) are a global group of educators committed to changing education by serving as advocates, advisors, ambassadors, and authors as they inspire teachers and serve as a light house for how technology is changing the way we do school. April is a published author on behalf of the ADE program and has written a book available in the iBooks store called Express Yourself: The Art of Me. Recently, she published a new book, which explores creative storytelling in Keynote and is titled, The Key(note) to Storytelling. You can see her two published iTunes U Courses, The Key(note) to Multiplication and The Key(note) to Coding by clicking on the live links. April recently gave a TEDxABQ Talk (Technology in the Hands of the Powerful) on empowering students to be leaders in technology integration at their schools by being on a student technology team. You can view the TED Talk here.
April is a member of the first Apple Vanguard Team for APS and an Apple Foundations Trainer. This team will help further develop technology integration skills for teachers in classrooms across schools in Albuquerque. Most recently, April took a year-long journey to work as a Senior Specialist for Apple Professional Development. During this time, April was able to use her skills as a leader and educator to help teachers in school districts connect the dots between technology and learning in ways teachers never thought possible. Upon completion of her project at Apple, April returned to her role as the Instructional Technology Specialist at North Star Elementary where she has taught technology integration skills to students in grades K-5 for the last five years. Visit her technology integration site she uses with her students at www.nstechies.com.
April’s true passion is focused on finding ways to communicate and collaborate with teachers and students using technology to creatively showcase student knowledge. April finds great joy in helping transform the way teachers teach and the way students learn.
“It’s not about the technology, it’s what you do with it that matters.”
